PRIVATE LESSONS AND PRACTICE ICE
You will find many sessions each week titled Freestyle Practice. They are not just for Freestyle-level skaters. We offer special ice times for skaters wanting to practice or take private lessons.
During these sessions skaters will be practicing routines, it is important to understand where on the ice to work and what to look out for. Check in with one of your instructors or with the front desk to get more information.
A LITTLE EXTRA HELP...
Private lessons can be helpful if you need some extra help passing any test level, from Pre-Alpha on up, or if you plan on competing. In order to pass any freestyle test, you must perform not only the maneuvers in your test level, but also a program to music. These programs are usually learned in regular private lessons.
Private lessons are available for any student enrolled in group lessons. Students aged 18 or older may take private lessons without being enrolled in group lessons.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Lessons are generally 20 minutes long. They may be taught during practice sessions or uncrowded public sessions, and this ice time must be purchased separately.
All of the teachers at the Ice Chalet are Professional Members of the Ice Skating Institute (ISI) and are certified as judges at the Bronze level or higher by the Ice Skating Institute. And almost all of them are available for private lessons, so if you're interested, just let them know. See the Instructors page.
ICE DANCE

ISI Ice Dance Structure
The international Ice Skating Institute has established a skills level structure especially for ice dance. As skaters progress through each level, they refine their skills as well as their appreciation for the beauty and challenge of this sport.
Ice dancing requires a wonderful combination of grace and form, skating skills, and musical appreciation. Tempo, lilt, patterns, flow, footwork, posture, edging, expression, partnering, etc., are essential elements of ice dancing. It's also a low-impact alternative for those who wish to improve their skating skills without jumping.

THEATRE ON ICE
Theatre on ice is an amazing opportunity to work with others in a production-based skating.
Being part of the Theatre on Ice program gives skater the change to explore choreography, presentation and acting skills.
SYNCHRONIZED TEAM SKATING

During the Fall, Winter & Spring terms, we prepare several different synchronized skating teams for competitions throughout the year. Synchronized skating takes the grace of ballet, the elegance of ice dancing, and the beauty of pairs skating, and combines the elements into an amazing spectacle on ice.
HOW TO JOIN?
Skaters are able to participate in synchro once they are in Alpha classes. Teams are assigned in the early Fall of each year, but you can join as an alternate any time! Ask your group lesson teacher or the counter staff for more information.
Most synchro teams travel to at least one out-of-town competition each year, and all compete at our annual competition in the Spring, right here in Knoxville!
HOLIDAY SCHOOL
Join us for our Holiday School -- a 6-12 day program for beginners through advanced level skaters during the holiday season, excluding Sundays and Christmas Day.
We have classes almost every day! You can choose to attend as many days as you wish! It's a great way to make fast progress in your skating skills and enjoy the holiday season in a very special way.
Check back for 2026 information in the fall!
NUTCRACKER ON ICE
Our annual holiday presentation includes seasonal training, cast classes, and performance-based skating experiences.
ICE SPORTS INDUSTRY
The International Skating Institute (ISI) is a national organization dedicated to providing fun, safe, structured learning pathways for skaters of all ages and levels.
We actively participate in ISI District 5 programs to support progress, competitive growth, and community recognition for our skaters throughout the year.
Explore skills levels, event opportunities, and resources through the district and club leadership at your convenience.
